It is our mission to provide opportunities for students to achieve their personal best, become responsible and productive citizens, and embrace lifelong learning in a safe and positive environment. We believe all children can learn and excel with developmentally appropriate materials, practices, and strategies. We believe all children deserve a quality education in which individual needs are met, exceeded, and supported. School is not just about children: it encompasses families, parents, community, stakeholders, society, the environment and beyond.
school year for students in Grades 6-12 and later expanded to include students in Grades K-5. Western Beaver's Online Academy continues to improve and expand each school year to make online learning a great option for families in our district! Online curriculum is aligned with brick and mortar curriculum to help students smoothly transition from brick and mortar to online and back to brick and mortar at the conclusion of a marking period if online learning is not the best option and/or the reason why a famly chooses virtual learning changes.
Our elementary cyber service is built on the Compass Odyssey platform. The program’s lessons are interactive and geared toward the elementary learner. Each lesson in Compass has been hand selected to align with Western Beaver's curriculum and students are provided offline materials to complete that help reinforce the lessons.
Our cyber students in Grades 5-12 use the Edgenuity platform where courses are also customized to align with Western Beaver's curriculum to make online learning engaging, rigorous, and relevant.
In addition, Western Beaver Online Academy provides asynchronous instruction where students can participate in the learning at the time of day that best meets their needs. Western Beaver Online Academy students may access videos and materials at their own pace. Western Beaver and Blackhawk teachers collaborate to monitor and grade the Edgenuity and Compass activities.
Western Beaver Online Academy students are classified as full-time, hybrid, or singleton students. Some enroll in only one online course while taking the remainder of his/her courses in the building, some have a mixture of both, and yet others take ALL courses via online offerings.
Students in Grades 6-12 also have the option of completing work in the Cyber Lab located at Western Beaver Jr-Sr High School where additional assistance is available. Elementary students are encouraged (but are not required) to use the library, attend field trips, and participate in any or all of the specials classes such as art, music, and physical education.
